Materials used for Yarn Lantern DIY
  1. Bowl

  2. Paintbrush

  3. Glue [Diluted]

  4. Inflated Balloon

  5. Thread of choice

  6. Safety Pin

  7. String Light or Bulb with holder

  8. Scissors

STEP 1

Circle On top of a Balloon

Alright, so here's what we are gonna do: Take that glue and mark a circle right on top of the balloon. Yep, right there. This circle is gonna be our opening, so we can slide in those string lights or pop in a tea candle later on. Make sure it's big enough for whatever you're planning to put in there, but not too big that things start slipping out. Got it? Great! Let's get that circle marked and ready for action.

STEP 2

Diluted Fevicol

We are going to dilute this glue with water in a 1:1 ratio. That means for every part of glue, we add an equal part of water. So, if you pour in one cup of glue, you'll need to add one cup of water. It's all about keeping that balance just right! Once you've got the glue and water measured out, mix them together until they're thoroughly combined.

STEP 3

Diluted glue with balloon winded with yarn

Take your wet glue thread and start wrapping it around the balloon. You want to cover the surface evenly, creating a nice layer all around. Once you have got that thread wrapped, grab a paintbrush and dip it into our diluted glue mixture. Now, gently paint over the wrapped thread, making sure to coat it evenly with the glue. This step is going to help seal everything in and give us a nice, sturdy structure once the glue dries.

STEP 4

Balloon winded with yarn

Once you have got it all wrapped up, it's time to let it dry. Find a nice spot where it can sit undisturbed for about 24 hours. This gives the glue plenty of time to dry and harden, so our structure becomes nice and sturdy.

Now, resist the temptation to touch it while it's drying. Let it work its magic, and tomorrow, we'll have a beautifully hardened base for our project. So, find a good spot, set it down gently, and let time do its thing.

STEP 5

A pin about to pop a balloon

It's been a good 24 hours, and now it's time for the big reveal! Grab yourself a safety pin and gently poke it into the balloon. Slowly release the air until the balloon deflates completely.

STEP 6

Taking balloon out of the hardened shape

Now that the balloon is deflated, it's time to carefully remove it from inside the lantern to reveal our hardened structure.

STEP 7

Placing wire light

Now that our lantern structure is all set, it's time to add some light! Place your light string or bulb onto the holder inside the lantern. Make sure it's positioned securely and centered within the lantern.

STEP 8
